If you are lucky enough to have a club membership as part of your
'relocation package', Hong Kong has a variety of social clubs to choose
from. For the newly arrived expatriate, this is
an excellent way to make friends and to start networking in your new
environment.
Most
clubs are privately run, and the joining fee
and monthly charges can be expensive. A formal nomination may be
required to become a member, and there are sometimes
long waiting lists. However, some clubs offer an 'active sports'
membership and if you are eligible, the waiting period to join may be
reduced. There are some Government-run sports facilities in Hong Kong but these are limited and
heavily utilised.
It
is possible to rent a debenture for certain clubs. The following companies
will know which clubs are available, and offer competitive membership
prices.
