Bringing pets into Hong Kong is considerably easier than into other Asian countries.


Pets from Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA are readily accepted and will be exempt from quarantine, provided the Special Permit (Form AF240) has been applied for, and all paperwork indicating vaccination records are in order. Pets from other countries may need to undergo extensive quarantine periods lasting anything from 30 days to 6 months depending on your country of origin. The Government is proposing that all imported dogs and cats will be required to be identified by a microchip implant before arriving in Hong Kong. This information can be clarified on the Government website listed below


Some apartment blocks may have rules relating to the keeping of pets, and
tenants should check the "house rules" before signing a Tenancy Agreement.

Repatriating your pet "back home" may prove to be a more arduous exercise for you, and a very stressful time for your pet. We would suggest you get professional advice before deciding to bring your pet with you.
