This is a very popular housing area for expatriates in Hong Kong. Despite the high population density, the convenience of living in this area, with its proximity to the main business districts of Central and Wanchai and the close proximity to shops, restaurants and bars provides an exciting lifestyle.

The Mid Levels area is an assortment of low-and high-rise living. New residential blocks are constantly springing up, and because space is at such a premium, it is common for these new blocks to tower over neighbouring sites. Many of the apartment blocks offer “facilities” such as a swimming pool, a children's playground and perhaps even tennis and squash courts and in some cases a Club House.

The Mid Levels Escalator offers a fascinating and alternative means of transportation from Central to Mid Levels, and a welcome respite from walking up the steep slopes that are so familiar to the residents of this area.  Supermarkets, shops, restaurants and cafes abound in Mid Levels, and especially around the Escalator area. An excellent network of buses and minibuses ensures a short and comfortable ride to the local business districts, and connections to the MTR (Mass Transit Railway) subway system.

This area is home to several local and international schools. Glenealy School (a primary school which is a member of the English Schools Foundation (ESF) group of schools), Hong Kong Academy, and Woodland Montessori Pre-School, are just some of the international schools located in this area.
