 The standard of medical
services in Hong Kong is amongst the highest in Asia.
There are many "expat" practices to choose from which have both
local doctors and dentists, and those who have been trained in the UK, USA,
Canada or Australia.
Hong Kong also offers a wealth
of 'alternative' health treatments. These range from traditional
Chinese medicine, acupuncture and reflexology to the more obscure oxygen
therapy or ear candling, and many other options.
Both private and Government hospitals offer a high standard of care.
Admission to Government hospitals is available for a nominal fee to all
residents of Hong Kong who hold a valid
Hong Kong Identity Card (HKID). Unfortunately waiting times at these
hospitals can be long, and most expatriates who have the benefit of
private health insurance tend to use the private hospital system.
Private medical care in Hong Kong is
extremely expensive, and you would be well advised to check your company
health scheme before using the private system.
