This
purpose-built housing and resort complex is located on Lantau
Island.
This development provides a haven for those with young families
who want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.

With a
population of around 12,000, Discovery Bay (often simply referred to
as DB), offers a slower paced, relaxed style of living. It has a
pleasant green environment,
and a long sandy beach close to the
ferry
pier.
There are many leisure and recreation facilities on DB. These
include a private Golf Club, and the DB Marina Club,
Discovery Bay Yacht Club, and the Lantau Boat Club
offer many opportunities for
those interested in sailing and
water sports.
In addition, residents of Discovery Bay can join the Residents’ Club,
which provides a
wide range of recreational facilities and offers fine dining in its
bars and restaurants.
The Discovery Bay Plaza has several shops, cafes and restaurants
including a well-stocked supermarket, and there
is an outdoor seating area that creates a popular central meeting
place.
Discovery Bay is served by a high-speed catamaran service from
the Outlying Ferry Piers in Central
on Hong Kong Island.
The journey takes about 25 minutes and costs HK$27
for a one way ticket. No private cars are permitted on Discovery
Bay, but shuttle buses
regularly
travel between the ferry pier and the different housing locations.
Some residents
rent “golf buggies"
and this is
the only form of private
transport allowed
on Discovery Bay.
The
DB Transportation Department run a fleet of communal hire cars that travel around the area and
'stop on demand'. Each car can carry up to 7 passengers, and a flat
fare is charged for each journey. There
is also easy access to Tung Chung MTR station, and buses
run directly to and from Hong Kong’s International Airport at Chek
Lap Kok.
Discovery Bay also boasts an
international primary
school with a curriculum
based on the English system,
and
there are several pre-schools
in
the area.
